The roller reads src/data/curated_verses.json. That file holds 17 passages. Ten are from the Protestant canon: Proverbs 16:33, Philippians 4:6-7, Isaiah 41:10, Psalm 23:1-3, Romans 8:38-39, Jeremiah 29:11, Psalm 46:1-2, 2 Corinthians 12:9, Psalm 119:105, and Psalm 103:1-5. Seven are deuterocanonical: Tobit 4:15, Wisdom 3:1-3, Sirach 2:1-2, Sirach 35:16-17, Baruch 4:28, 1 Maccabees 3:18-19, and Judith 13:18.
Wikipedia records that modern chapter numbers follow Stephen Langton in the early 13th century, and that Robert Estienne's verse numbers entered print in 1551. Those numbers are how a generator can point at "John 3:16" at all. They are not a promise that this tool indexes every numbered verse. Other sites advertise a draw from 31,102 Protestant verses.
